"Revenge of Democracy" Unit Study: New Year, 2008

"My mother always said democracy is the best revenge."--Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, new head of Pakistan Peoples Party and son of the assasinated Benazir Bhutto.

I pray for democracy and freedom in 2008 throughout the middle east, and the world. For all people--not just Americans--"are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights..." (Declaration of Independence, in Congress, July 4, 1776.)

If we wish to understand current events, we must study the past. Here's an economical way to do it: study original sources, such as the inaugural addresses of American Presidents, at http://www.gopusa.com/presidents . Continue a study of the presidents at http://www.americanpresidents.org/ , with free lesson plans and videos, or study other documents at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/presidents/index.html . Presidential speeches and original documents would make a great unit study.
