College Scholarships for Homeschool Graduates, and Campbell's Labels for Education Program
One of the most important skills needed for college is essay writing. Why not let your homeschooled high school student practice writing and earn scholarship money at the same time? For the Penguin Putnam Essay Contest, which should now be available to homeschooled students, go to http://www.penguinputnam.com/static/html/services-academic/essayhome.html . Find more about scholarships, homeschooling high school and even homeschooling college at my web site, http://www.eaglesnesthome.com/unit.htm .
Here's something else of interest to homeschoolers of all ages:
Campbell's Labels for Education program, a freebie from the http://www.homeschoolzone.com/ :
"It's official! Homeschoolers are now allowed to be part of
Campbell's Labels for Education program. Originally you had to be a real sleuth to figure out if you could participate, but NOW it's official."
According to "Ask Anne" section of their website (which is still a bit hidden from the front page of the program), it says:
(From Campbell's website)
"Are homeschools eligible to participate in the program?
Homeschools are eligible to participate as long as they are accredited through their county or state. Please send a letter with proof of your accreditation to:
Campbell's Labels for Education
PO Box 3130
Grand Rapids, Minnesota 55745-3130, http://www.labelsforeducation.com/coord_ask_anne.asp
or call 1-800-424-5331
Their Labels for Education Program, which encourages public and private schools to collect labels from all Campbell's products ( which includes companies Pepperidge Farm and Godiva), allow students and schools to exchange labels for such goodies as videos, art supplies, even computers. Wouldn't this be a great way for homeschool support groups to fund field trips, educational supplies, or equipment?

Free Video Game Addiction Assessment
If you're finding it hard to control or limit your kid's video game use, you're not alone. Check out the free video game addiction assessment at http://videogametrouble.org/pages/2/index.htm .
One thing that helps at our house is to limit all video game or entertainment to the evening hours, even in the summer. Then what will your kids do? Well, too many times of crying "I'm bored" when I was a kid always prompted my mom to find us chores. My kids know that, so they try and find creative or active outlets ( composing music, writing stories, arts and crafts, home business) to take up their spare time.
Hope you're having a great summer! Let us know what good things your kids are doing.
