Vanity Fair and The Magician's Nephew
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up; Jeremiah 18:15
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16
In Lit. class this week, we finished evaluating Pilgrim's Progress from a biblical worldview, and began discussing "The Magician's Nephew" by C.S. Lewis. The comments, both in class and blogged, were awesome!
Let's go a little deeper, and consider the following questions from Starting Points, in the context of "The Magician's Nephew":
"1. In Narnia is there a God...and if so...What is he like?
a. Does any one character represent God?
b. If so, who and what are his attributes?
2. What is the nature of the Narnian universe?...
a. Was Narnia created or did it always exist?
b. What is the interconnection between Narnia and our world?
3. What is the source of evil in Narnia?
a. Does evil exist in Narnia?
b. Was evil part of the creation itself or did it enter from some other source?"
What do you think? Write a short essay to answer the three questions above, approximately one paragraph per question. Click the "comments" link (below) and give it
your best shot.
Next week I'll post Literary Terms--Tools we can use to understand literature and write more competently. However, feel free to return to this thread and continue the discussion about
these three worldview questions.

The World of the Magician’s Nephew
In the essay I’m going to answer these eight questions to compare the biblical worldview and the Magician’s Nephew.
In Narnia is there a God? And if so, what is he like?
Yes, there is, and he is like a Lion.
Does any one character represent God?
Aslan the Lion represents God.
If so, what are his attributes?
He is just and good, and will not tolerate the evil of the White Witch.
What is the nature of the Narnian universe?
It is newly created. Of the animals that live there only a few can speak. They are eager to serve their creator Aslan, but the White Witch Jadis has already brought evil into the new world.
Whatis the interconnection between Narnia and our universe?
Polly and Digory first enter an in between world using magic rings, then enter Narnia through the in between world. Narnia represents our world.
What is the source of evil in Narnia?
The White Witch and her followers brought evil to Narnia.
Was evil a part of the creation itself or did it come from another source?
The White Witch came from another world that she had already destroyed with her evil.
